Torres Named ECC Player of the Week
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2013) - LIU Post men's basketball junior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y) has been dubbed the East Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Torres racked up his first double-double in the green and gold, posting a 33-point, 10-assist game in the Pioneers' 92-85 win versus Bloomfield on Saturday (Nov. 23). 25 of those points came in the second half, when LIU Post rallied from an 18-point deficit to come away with the victory.
Torres also hauled in five rebounds and swiped two steals, while shooting 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from the field, which included a 44.4 percent (4-of-9) clip from three-point land.
His 18.0 scoring average currently sits ninth-highest on the conference leaderboard, and second-best on the team through five games this season. Yet, the New Rochelle product's 5.2 assists per game are tied for tops in the ECC.
Torres and the Pioneers are back at it next Saturday (Nov. 30), when they travel to Waterbury, Conn. to take on Post. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
