Allen's 23-Point Day Leads Men's Basketball Past UDC, 75-62

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 7, 2013) - Senior forward
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) netted a game-high 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting Saturday to lift the LIU Post men's basketball team to a 75-62 win versus District of Columbia at UDC Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
He also had eight rebounds, while drilling nine of 10 at the line. Junior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) registered 16 points, seven boards and four assists. Sophomore guard
Akosa Maduegbunam (Hyde Park, Mass.) collected 13 points. Junior forward
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) finished with 13 rebounds and seven points.
Down 14-7 halfway into the first period, the Pioneers posted a 15-2 streak over a three-plus minute stretch to go up 22-16 with 6:21 remaining. Maduegbunam accounted for the burst's first 12 points. Allen followed with a lay-up. Freshman guard
Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.), who added nine points in 12 minutes off the bench, capped it off with a three-pointer.
The Firebirds (1-5, 0-2 ECC) would close the gap to four points (28-24) down the stretch, until a 10-2 spurt gave the visitors a 38-26 edge at the break. Allen opened it up with a pair of makes at the stripe. Junior guard
Isiah Stokley (Queens, N.Y.) rounded out the run with a trey. Torres sandwiched those plays with a dunk.
LIU Post (5-3, 2-0 ECC) started up the latter stanza on an 8-2 burst, which extended the lead to an 18-point margin (46-28), its largest of the afternoon. The run secured the Pioneers' fourth-consecutive win as well. Allen commenced the scoring with a lay-in. Williams knocked down a pair of jays.
UDC only came as close as nine points the rest of the way. A trio of made free throws by freshman guard Kevin Campbell (Washington, D.C.) cut the deficit to 69-60 with 1:36 left.
