DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (February 16, 2013) – The LIU Post men's basketball team surpassed the century mark for the second time this season as senior Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) pumped in a season-high 34 points and the Pioneers nailed 14 three-pointers in a rout of the Mercy College Mavericks, 102-79, on Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference men's basketball action.

The Pioneers improve to 16-7 overall and 11-4 in conference play, while Mercy slides to 4-19 overall and 3-12 in ECC action.

The visitors led just about wire to wire, as they took the lead at 19:03 in the contest and never looked back, opening the game with an 11-2 run, spurred by hot shooting out of the gate from Carberry, who registered eight of the first 11 points scored by himself.

The Pioneers quickly pushed their lead to double digits, up 25-11 at the 14:45 mark, and extending the lead to as many as 20 points, 50-30, with 3:36 left in the half.  LIU Post led 54-41 at the halftime break.

The second half saw the Mavericks cut the lead to nine, 59-50, at 14:29, but the Pioneers were undaunted as they stretched their advantage quickly back into double digits, and even further as they climbed into the+20 range with eight minutes to play, with an eventual 23-points margin of victory.

Carberry's season best scoring effort came on 13-22 shooting including 6-12 from long-range.  He was buoyed by a super effort from freshman Emile Blackman (Dix Hills, N.Y.), who scored a career-best 23 points on 9-13 shooting (3-4 from downtown).   Fellow freshman Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) was solid with 14 points (4 three-pointers) and six assists.  Sophomore Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.Y.) added 14 points in the victory.

The Pioneers were solid shooters in the contest, making 54.4% (37-68) from the floor and 53.8% (14-26) from long range.  They held a 34-32 edge on the glass, and forced the Mavericks into 21 turnovers, scoring 25 points off the miscues.

Joseph Pope led the Mavericks with 23 points and Chaz Morrish scored 15 for the hosts.

Next up for the Pioneers as conference play winds down is a home contest against Saint Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, February 20 at 7 p.m.
