Eckerle Nabs ECC Pitcher Of The Week
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 10, 2013) – For the second time this season, redshirt-sophomore hurler
Mike Eckerle (Hewlett, N.Y.) of the LIU Post baseball team was named the East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding outing in the circle last week.
In the second game of the series against Mercy, Eckerle tossed a complete game shutout en route to a 7-0 Pioneer win. He allowed just two hits and one walk while matching his season high strikeout count of 13 in just seven innings of work. He held his opponents to a mere .087 batting average by shutting them down one-two-three in every inning but the fourth in which he worked into a bases loaded jam with two outs, but got the final Maverick to strike out to end the threat.
The Pioneers are off until Friday, when they take on Molloy College at 6 p.m., opening up a four-game weekend series between the two ECC rivals.
