BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 15, 2013) – LIU Post junior pitcher Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) has been named the 2013 Daktronics East Region Player of the Year, and three other Pioneer softball players have earned Daktronics East Region honors.

Weber put together a standout year both at the plate and in the circle for the Pioneers. Offensively, Weber totaled 69 hits, posting a .401 average. She also posted tremendous power numbers, hitting 12 doubles and 10 homeruns from the leadoff spot. Her pitching numbers were as good, if not better, than her stats at the plate. In 36 appearances (33 starts), Weber once again tied for a top mark in the ECC, this time with 24 wins. In 201.1 innings pitched, opposing hitters managed just a .237 batting average against and struck out 216 times. Weber also ranked third in the ECC with a 2.02 earned run average.

Weber and centerfielder Alexis Gonzalez (Hauppauge, N.Y.) were named to the East Region First Team.

Gonzalez finished the 2013 season with a .340 batting average, 13 doubles, a .623 slugging percentage and a team-leading 13 homers, 56 RBIs and 56 runs scored. She also posted a .972 fielding percentage patrolling centerfield for the Pioneers.

Sophomore catcher Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) and freshman utility player Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) were named to the East Region Second Team.

Dzierzynski posted a .301 batting average, drove in 50 runs, tallied eight doubles and was second on the team with 10 homers. She also posted a .982 fielding percentage splitting time behind the plate and at first base.

Swantek finished with a .333 batting average and tied for third on the team with seven homers. She also drove in 42 runs, good for fourth on the team. On the defensive end, she posted a .988 fielding percentage primarily as the backup catcher.
