Men's Lacrosse Overwhelms Chestnut Hill, 17-5

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 4, 2013) – The LIU Post men's lacrosse team put together a complete effort both offensively and defensively, and came away with a dominating 17-5 victory over Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference women's lacrosse action.

The Pioneers win the ECC regular season by virtue of a 7-0 slate in conference play, while also improving to 11-2 on the season.  Chestnut Hill finishes with a 7-6 overall record and a 4-3 in conference play.

The Pioneers went up 5-0 in the first quarter as junior Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) and freshman Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) each accounted for two goals apiece and freshman Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied one goal. 

The Griffins got on the board at 4:47 as Michael Duddy scored unassisted, and both teams tallied a goal in the last minute of play to end the quarter with the Pioneers up 6-2.

Three straight Pioneer goals began the second quarter as Drost, graduate student Joe Costello (Minneapolis, Minn.) and freshman Anthony Berardis (Mahopac, N.Y.) registered markers.  Shane Morlock scored a man-up goal for Chestnut Hill, making the score 9-3 in favor of the hosts. Two more scores – by Beccaris and Billy Deignan (Baldwin, N.Y.) at 3:15 and 3:00 – put the Pioneers up 11-3 at halftime. 

The Pioneers outscored the Griffins 3-1 in the third quarter as senior Chris Ruhlig (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), Beccaris and Drost accounted for the scoring. 

Another 3-1 quarter in favor of the Pioneers capped the game and rounded out the final score of 17-5.

Drost led the Pioneers with four goals, while Beccaris scored a hat trick and added one assists. Costello also tallied a hat trick and an assist, and Slane registered two goals and four assists.  Berardis tallied a goal and an assist, and Chimenti scored one goal and had one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Tim Bradley (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 12 saves in 54:34 minutes of action, and Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) made three saves in the last 5:26 of action.

The Pioneers await Sunday night's NCAA selection show to find out further information on their post-season.
