Men's Lacrosse Listed Fourth in Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top-10
Complete Release
BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 10, 2014) - The LIU Post men's lacrosse team earned a No. 4 ranking Thursday, as Lacrosse Magazine released its NCAA Division II Preseason Top-10 Poll. The Pioneers were ranked second last month by Inside Lacrosse.
LIU Post, guided by eighth-year head coach
John Jez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), was one of just three programs from the East Coast Conference to make the cut. NYIT placed sixth, while Dowling was eighth.
The Pioneers will face five of Lacrosse Magazine's Top-10 teams in 2014. That includes top-ranked Adelphi on Mar. 11 at 3 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
Last season, the green and gold owned an overall record of 11-3, and a perfect 7-0 mark in ECC action. But, LIU Post fell short in its quest for a national title, falling to eventual national champion Le Moyne, 9-8, in an NCAA first-round match-up.
The Pioneers return both of their USILA All-America selections from 2013. Senior defenseman
T.J. McAndrew (Randolph, N.J.) totaled 38 ground balls last year and a team-leading 27 caused turnovers, which ranked third-best in the conference.
On the other hand, freshman attackman and ECC Rookie of the Year
Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) led LIU Post in goals (35) and points (50). He also picked up the third-most ground balls with 52. Beccaris and McAndrew each garnered Preseason All-America distinction from Inside Lacrosse.
The Pioneers open up the 2014 season on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Charlotte, N.C. against Queens University. The contest is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
