Former Football Defensive Standouts Sign Professional Deals
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 24, 2014) - This past week, former LIU Post football defensive linemen
Kadeem Huggins (Corona, N.Y.) and
Lou Scala (Coram, N.Y.) each inked a contract with a professional team. The duo finished their collegiate careers with the Pioneers in 2011.
Huggins signed the dotted line with the Arena Football League's New Orleans Voodoo. In four seasons in Brookville, the Corona, N.Y. native registered 83 tackles (26 for loss) and 13 sacks. At the conclusion of his senior season in 2011, Huggins was picked to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference All-Defensive first-team.
Meanwhile, Scala will play for the Sioux City Bandits of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. He finished his four-year stint at LIU Post with 184 tackles (29 for loss), 11.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. For his efforts, the Coram, N.Y. product garnered All-America first-team distinction from D2ProDay.com, and was twice named to the PSAC All-Defensive first-team.
Huggins and the Voodoo will kick off their 2014 campaign at the Tampa Bay Storm on Friday, Mar. 14 at 6:30 p.m. On the other hand, Scala and the Bandits open up on Friday, Feb. 7 versus the Sioux Falls Storm at 7:05 p.m.
