Football Ranked Ninth in Initial ECAC Lambert Meadowlands Poll

DANBURY, Conn. (Oct. 15, 2014) - On Tuesday, the Eastern College Athletic Conference released its first Lambert Meadowlands Division II Poll of 2014, and LIU Post was listed ninth in the ledger.

The Pioneers are coming off their third-straight victory, a thrilling 28-25 win over Stonehill last Saturday (Oct. 11) at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. Trailing by four points (25-21) in the final seconds of regulation, red-shirt senior quarterback Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) found red-shirt sophomore wideout Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.) in the corner of the end zone for a game-winning two-yard touchdown pass.

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams occupied the Top-3 spots in the tally. No. 10 West Chester and No. 12 Bloomsburg, both sporting unblemished 6-0 record, were first and second, respectively. California (Pa.) placed third.

Northeast-10 Conference-leading American International (5-1) was fourth. Fellow 5-1 teams Slippery Rock, East Stroudsburg, Indiana (Pa.) and Saint Anselm owned the No. 5 through No. 8 slots. Gannon rounded out the census in 10th.

To be eligible for the Lambert Meadowlands Award, which is presented to recognize supremacy in Eastern collegiate football, a school must be located in the East or play at least half of its schedule against eligible Lambert teams. The territory includes New York, New Jersey, New England and Pennsylvania. Teams in the bordering states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia qualify if at least half of their schedule features eligible teams or ECAC member institutions.

LIU Post returns to the gridiron Saturday (Oct. 18), when it hosts a Homecoming duel at Bethpage Stadium against NE-10 rival Saint Anselm. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
