BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 15, 2014) - LIU Post Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
John Jez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) has recently been selected as a nominee for Inside Lacrosse's 2014 Laxie Coach of the Year Award.
Last season, Jez mentored the Pioneers to an 11-6 overall record, an East Coast Conference Championship and an NCAA Division II National Championship appearance.
Entering its final contest of the regular season at 6-5, LIU Post upset then-No. 5 Dowling, 9-6, to keep its postseason hopes alive. One week later, Jez's squad beat the same Golden Lions in the ECC title game, 10-9, on a goal by
Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) with 2:07 left in regulation.
That victory would send the green and gold to the NCAA Division II Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the North Region. From there, the Pioneers were the Cinderella story. They took to the road, and defeated both No. 3 Le Moyne (9-3) and No. 1 Adelphi (12-9) to advance to the National Championship. However, LIU Post came up one win short of hoisting the hardware, as it fell to Limestone, 12-6.
In addition to the team's finish, Jez guided 10 of his players to All-East Coast Conference honors, four of whom were also named USILA All-Americans.
During his tenure as head coach, Jez has compiled a record of 95-26, and led the Pioneers to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championships (2009 & 2010).
