Laurino, Brunetti Garner NE-10 Weekly Football Accolades

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. (Oct. 20, 2014) - On Monday, LIU Post red-shirt senior quarterback Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) and red-shirt senior linebacker Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) were named the Northeast-10 Conference Football Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

For Laurino, it is the second time this season that he has received top offensive praise. He landed the honor back on Sept. 15, following a 38-33 come-from-behind win against New Haven.

This past Saturday, Laurino had a hand in every Pioneer scoring play, en route to a 49-21 romp of Saint Anselm on Homecoming. The Boise native was 31-of-51 passing for 346 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 77 yards and three scores.

In 2014, Laurino has successfully completed 61.1 percent (171-of-280) of his passes for 1,895 yards and 16 TD's, good for a 129.64 efficiency rating. His passing touchdown and yardage totals individually rank second and third in the NE-10.

Laurino has been a staple in LIU Post's rushing attack as well. Through seven games, he has amassed 375 net yards on 109 total keepers and 13 touchdowns, which are sixth-best in Division II.

Defensively, Brunetti continues to be the driving force in the green and gold's linebacking corps. On Saturday, he led all players in tackles (13), forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and broke up a pass.

The Bayville product is presently the Pioneers' and NE-10's leading tackler on the season with 74 (11 TFL). He also spearheads the team in interceptions (3) and forced fumbles (3). Brunetti has two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick to his credit as well.

Laurino, Brunetti and the LIU Post football team are back in action Saturday (Oct. 25), when they host Northeast-10 rival American International in a battle of first-place squads at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
