CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2014) - After anchoring an LIU Post men's soccer defense that solidified two quality wins last week, sophomore back Johannes Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) has been selected as the East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday.
 
Forgaard led a Pioneer back line that shut down both UDC and Queens late in the match to preserve two ECC victories for the green and gold.
 
In the win over UDC, LIU Post held off a strong attack from the Firebirds, as UDC was able to get off 10 shots in the second half, 16 overall. Though the Firebirds scored in the 75th minute to cut the deficit to one goal, the Pioneer defense stepped up and didn't allow a shot over the final 15 minutes of action to secure the 2-1 win.
 
Against Queens, Forgaard and LIU Post held the Knights shotless over the final eight-plus minutes of action, and came away with a 2-1 victory.
 
Forgaard and the Pioneers return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 8), when they head to Delaware to take on Wilmington in a non-conference match-up. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
