The Pioneer Trail: Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014

Women's Tennis at Holy Family - 3:30 p.m.
Having already eclipsed its win total from last year, the LIU Post women's tennis team looks to pick up another victory, as it faces Holy Family in Philadelphia, Pa.

The Pioneers (5-2) grabbed a 7-2 win over Pratt Institute on Friday (Oct. 3). Juniors Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) completed wins in singles play to remain unbeaten on the 2014 season. The team won all their contested matches against the Cannoneers, including an 8-1 romp by Fatchikova and Chrastecka in top-flight doubles.

The Tigers (5-5) are in search of their third-straight win on the campaign. Holy Family shut out Molloy, 7-0, on Wednesday (Oct. 7), after winning 8-1 against Georgian Court last Thursday (Oct. 2). Senior Casey Borish (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Alina Nersesyan (Yaroslavi, Russia) key the Tigers' singles success, sporting 5-4 records, respectively. The sophomore doubles tandem of Emerald Adams (White Plains, Md.) and Anastasiya Kolodiy (Lviv, Ukraine) have posted a 6-3 mark thus far.

The bout between the Pioneers and Tigers was originally scheduled to be held on Sept. 11, but got rained out.

Women's Soccer vs. Wilmington (Del.) - 3:30 p.m.
The LIU Post women's soccer team (8-1) looks to extend its eight-game winning streak when it hosts Wilmington in a non-conference match at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville, N.Y.

LIU Post is coming off a 2-0 victory against East Coast Conference foe Queens last Sunday (Oct. 5). Senior backĀ Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) scored both goals for the green and gold. In 2014, the Pioneer defense has allowed just four tallies through the squad's first nine games, good enough for a 0.44 goals-against average. That number ranks 15th in the nation and second in the ECC.

Wilmington (2-8) hopes to rebound from a 3-0 loss to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Philadelphia last Tuesday.
