Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) claimed Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week accolades on Monday.
It is the fifth time that Laurino has received the honor this season, and the nod marks three consecutive weeks in which the signal-caller of the Pioneers has been lauded as the league's top weekly performer.
Laurino led the Pioneers to a 58-25 win over AIC this past Saturday (Nov. 15), throwing for five touchdowns and 413 passing yards in the contest. He gunned three touchdown passes in a span of 2:34 in the third quarter of the team's victory, completing a pair of TD tosses to red-shirt senior
Kamron Palmer (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and one to red-shirt sophomore
Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.). In total, Laurino finished 30-of-57 passing, and ran for 61 yards and a score.
Laurino's impressive campaign has him first in Division II with 282 points responsible for and fourth in the country in total offense (355.2 yards). He has completed 61 percent of his passes (288-of-472) for 3,305 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, while scampering for a team-high 602 yards and 22 TD's on the season, a marker which puts him in the Top-5 in Division II for rushing touchdowns.
Laurino and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Nov. 22) as the No. 6 seed in Super Region One of the 2014 NCAA Division II Championship. They will travel to Petersburg, Va. to face third-seeded Virginia State. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
