AMHERST, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2014) - The LIU Post men's soccer team used a four-goal first half Sunday to knock off Daemen, 5-0, in East Coast Conference action.
With the win, the Pioneers (13-3-1, 8-1-1 ECC) secured a share of the 2014 ECC regular-season championship with NYIT.
LIU Post got out to an early lead after sophomore forward
Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) recorded a tally in the seventh minute. The sophomore dribbled through the defense and was able to rip one from inside the box, beating the keeper for the early 1-0 lead.
Then, in the 27th minute, graduate forward
Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) got a pass from Kristjansson and the Roosevelt native found the back of the net, giving the Pioneers a two-goal advantage.
Later, in the 37th minute, senior forward
Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) took a penalty kick and converted for his 14th marker of the season.
Austboe wasn't done, however. In the 41st minute, he collected a rebound and put a quick shot on net that found the mesh for a 4-0 lead, which LIU Post would take into halftime. The Pioneers outshot the Wildcats, 9-3, in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, junior forward
Alfred Lindberg (Grabo, Sweden) found junior midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) wide open at the top of the box and Forgaard sent home the shot to cap the scoring for the Pioneers.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and the second-seeded Pioneers will host third-seeded Dowling in the semifinals of the 2014 East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship on Thursday (Nov. 6) at Pioneer Soccer Park.
