BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 14, 2014) - The LIU Post wrestling team returned home Sunday to a 29-9 loss at the hands of Kutztown at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Though the Pioneers (1-8) were saddled with an early 6-0 deficit, after Tyler Walsh (West Islip, N.Y.) was pinned in 1:14 at the 125-lb. bout, the green and gold won their next two decisions to tie the score.

Freshman Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) earned two key near fall points in the third period to top Trent Clifford (Pottstown, Pa.) at 133. Meanwhile, junior Jesse Meaney (Washington Township, N.J.) shut out Matt Benvenuto (Stanhope, N.J.), 2-0, in the 141-lb. weight class.

However, the Golden Bears (4-3) won five of the last six matches to secure the win. LIU Post's last victory of the day came at 197, as senior Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) rallied with three points in the third period (two escape, one warning) to defeat Brandan Clark (Audubon, Pa.) by a 5-4 count.

Earlier in the match, red-shirt freshman Jackson Mordente (Farmingville, N.Y.) was locked in a tight battle against Jackson Stabile (Lenhartsville, Pa.) at 157. Stabile, trailing 3-2 in the third period, recorded three near fall points in a come-from-behind 5-4 triumph.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and the Pioneers will now make their debut at the "World's Most Famous Arena", when they square off with Minnesota State-Moorhead in the annual Grapple at the Garden at Madison Square Garden next Sunday (Dec. 21). The dual is set to begin at 8 a.m.
