Men's Basketball Slips Up at Bridgeport, 83-68

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 12, 2014) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post men's basketball team opened up a three-game road trip with an 83-68 loss to East Coast Conference rival Bridgeport at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium in Bridgeport, Conn.
Leading 15-14 six-plus minutes into the game, the Purple Knights (13-9, 11-5 ECC) rolled off a game-changing 19-4 run over a span of 5:39 to extend their advantage to 34-18 at the 8:03 mark. JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) sparked, and closed the streak with three-pointers, respectively.
UB was red hot in the opening session, shooting 63.6 percent (21-of-32) from the field, and twice held as much as a 23-point lead in the period. The hosts would carry a 51-30 cushion into halftime.
The first 20 minutes proved to be all the Purple Knights needed, as the Pioneers (14-9, 9-6 ECC) only closed the gap to as few as 13 points (81-68) the rest of the way.
Junior forward
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) and sophomore guard
Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored a team-leading 15 points each. Burns also amassed seven assists, four rebounds and three steals, while Williams grabbed six rebounds. Senior forward
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) posted a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).
Sophomore guard
Akosa Maduegbunam (Hyde Park, Mass.) chipped in a six-point, five-rebound effort. Junior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and freshman guard
Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) added five points apiece. Junior forward
Charles McCann (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) chipped in five boards, four points, two assists and a pair of steals in 26 minutes off the bench.

Erik Smiles and his LIU Post squad are back in action Saturday (Feb. 15), when they square off with Dowling in an ECC showdown in Oakdale, N.Y. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
