Baseball Suffers 1-0 Loss to Assumption
Box Score
LANTANA, Fla. (Mar. 10, 2014) - The LIU Post baseball team dropped a pitchers' duel on Monday afternoon, losing to Assumption, 1-0, at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana, Fla.
Junior pitcher
Joey Arena (Yorktown, N.Y.) retired the last 16 batters he faced, but a hit by pitch in the last of the third proved to be the difference. With two out, Arena struck Assumption's (2-2) Colin Clancy, who would come around to score after two wild pitches and a passed ball went to the backstop.
Arena's final line was impressive, allowing just the one run and one hit over eight innings. The lefty struck out six in his first outing of 2014.
The Pioneers (2-2) were able to muster three hits off the Greyhounds' Kevin O'Connor. But, he tossed a complete-game shutout to earn his first win of the season.
The green and gold wrap up their 2014 Spring Training trip with a 10 a.m. game against Bloomfield on Tuesday (Mar. 11). Live stats will be available
