BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 11, 2014) - On Tuesday, the No. 3 LIU Post men's lacrosse team closed a four-game homestand with an 11-7 loss to second-ranked Adelphi at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The defeat is the first of 2014 for the Pioneers.

The Panthers (3-0) controlled the pace in the first half of the contest. They outshot the Pioneers (3-1) by a two-to-one clip (24-10), and netted seven unanswered goals to begin play. Junior Connor Duddy (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and sophomore Salvatore Tuttle (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tallied two markers apiece to key the run.

LIU Post would get a goal in the final seconds before the break to trim the deficit to 7-1. Junior attackman Chris Caiazza (Farmingdale, N.Y.), who registered a hat trick on the afternoon, found the back of the cage off a feed from sophomore midfielder Anthony Berardis (Mahopac, N.Y.).

In the third period, the green and gold kicked off the scoring at the 8:36 mark. Sophomore attackmen Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) teamed up to cut the visitors' lead to a five-goal margin (7-2).

That was the closest the Pioneers came to mounting a comeback, until the hosts made it an 11-7 game with 1:35 left in the fourth quarter. By then, it was too late, and AU had wrapped up the victory.

Caiazza added an assist to his hat trick for a four-point day. Slane chipped in a two-point effort (1 G, 1 A). Senior defenseman T.J. McAndrew (Randolph, N.J.) won eight ground balls and caused three turnovers. Senior midfielder Octavio Bernabo (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up five ground balls. In the cage, graduate goaltender T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a game-best 14 saves.

Head Coach John Jez and his LIU Post squad now begin a four-game road trip on Saturday (Mar. 15) in Rochester, N.Y. at Roberts Wesleyan. The opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
