Men's Lacrosse Drops to No. 12/13 in National Rankings
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 14, 2014) - After a two-goal loss to No. 4 Mercyhurst on Saturday, the LIU Post men's lacrosse team tumbled to 12th and 13th, respectively, in Monday's USILA and Lacrosse Magazine Division II rankings.
The Pioneers led 7-6 over the Lakers after three periods of play, but Mercyhurst shut down the green and gold in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered to secure the victory at home. LIU Post managed to stay in the game thanks to a five-point (1 G, 4 A) afternoon from junior midfielder
Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.). Sophomore midfielder
Anthony Berardis (Mahopac, N.Y.) added a hat trick for the Pioneers, and second-year goalie
Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) stopped eight shots in the effort.
The USILA tally saw no change in the Top-3 teams as Adelphi was a unanimous No. 1 selection for the second-straight week. Le Moyne and Limestone followed, while Mercyhurst stayed in fourth. Dowling dropped to fifth after being tied with the Lakers last week.
The Top-5 teams in the Lacrosse Magazine poll held true to the same form, as well. In fact, all of the top eight teams maintained their rankings from last week, as Merrimack, Tampa, and NYIT stayed in the sixth through eighth spots.
Wheeling Jesuit appeared in both polls for the first time this season after defeating a ranked Seton Hill squad over the weekend. The Cardinals are 11th in the USILA standings and cracked the Top-10 of the Lacrosse Magazine tally. Molloy fell out of both ledgers this week, coming off a quadruple-overtime loss to NYIT on Saturday.
Head Coach
John Jez and the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (Apr. 19) for an East Coast Conference showdown against their Northern Boulevard rival No. 7/8 NYIT in Old Westbury, N.Y. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
