Men's Lacrosse's Run Ends With Loss to Limestone
Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (May 25, 2014) - The LIU Post men's lacrosse team saw its Cinderella run come to an end on Sunday, as the Pioneers fell to Limestone, 12-6, in the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse National Championship game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
The Pioneers (11-6) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when sophomore
Matty Beccaris (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored an unassisted tally with 13:23 to go in the first quarter. Limestone (19-1) responded with a marker just over three minutes later, but LIU Post would take a 2-1 lead into the intermission when sophomore
Anthony Berardis (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored with 5:09 to go in the period.
Things unraveled for the green and gold in the second quarter, as the Saints out-scored LIU Post 7-2 in the 15-minute session. Sophomore
Ryan Slane (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Beccaris netted goals for the Pioneers.
In the second half, Limestone would add four more goals to the Pioneers' two, one from freshman
Chris Caiazza (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and one from the stick of senior
Connor Mackay (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) In goal, graduate goalie
T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made 14 saves on the 26 shots he faced. Limestone held a slight advantage on face-offs, winning 11 of 21.
