Women's Swimming Posts Top GPA in Division II
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Jul. 10, 2014) - In 2013-14, the LIU Post women's swimming team not only excelled in the pool, it boasted the top grade-point average in all of NCAA Division II, receiving CSCAA Scholar All-America honors on Thursday.
This past season, the Pioneers compiled a team GPA of 3.73. With
Maureen Travers (Levittown, N.Y.) at the helm, the green and gold have finished either first or second in the CSCAA rankings each of the last six years.
LIU Post also captured its second-straight Metropolitan Conference Championship, and had numerous athletes post qualifying times for the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships. Eight swimmers garnered All-America recognition, one of whom was sophomore
Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.). Kwok won her second-consecutive national title in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking a school-record 1:58.91.
In dual meets, the Pioneers were 8-1 overall. After dropping their opener to Wagner, Travers' squad rolled off eight victories in a row. They outscored their opposition by a 1,936-1,420 count in that stretch.
Lynn came in right behind the Pioneers in the Scholar All-America ledger, sporting a 3.72 GPA. Bridgeport (3.62) and Saint Rose (3.61) were the closest East Region programs to LIU Post.
