BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Sept. 13, 2014) - The LIU Post men's soccer team bounced back from its double-overtime loss Thursday with a 3-0 win versus Bloomfield on Saturday at the 2014 UB Men's Soccer Classic.
Junior midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) paced the Pioneers (2-2) with two goals, while graduate forward
Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) also contributed a tally.
The green and gold seemed to dominate the scoresheet, as the Pioneers held a 26-4 shot advantage and a 15-2 corner kick edge.
McDonald opened the scoring for LIU Post in just the second minute of action. He took a long run through midfield and the Bloomfield defense, beating Bears' (0-3) keeper Arthur Clapot just 98 seconds into the match.
In the 39th minute, Forgaard was able to drive home a shot off a corner kick served in by freshman
Harry Pearse (Hillindon, London, England) for the first of the contest for the junior and the second of the game for the Pioneers.
LIU Post then came out of halftime looking to add to the 2-0 lead. Forgaard was able to pick up a loose ball in front of the net and send home his second tally of the contest and third of the season.
In goal for the green and gold, junior
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made two saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 17), when LIU Post hosts Millersville in a non-conference tilt in Brookville, N.Y. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
