Wrestling Slotted Ninth in Latest Super Region One Rankings

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 28, 2015) 
- The LIU Post wrestling team has cracked the Super Region I Top-10, per the recent rankings provided by the region's coaches. The Pioneers, who boast three regionally-ranked grapplers, were listed ninth.

Freshman Joe Calderone (South Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Jesse Meaney (Toms River, N.J.) ranked third at 133 and 141, respectively. Calderone has gotten off to a torrid start in his rookie campaign, boasting a 10-1 record in dual meet action. He has earned four wins via pinfall, three via major decision and one via technical fall. Additionally, Calderone was the top place-winner at the Long Island Open on Jan. 3.

Meaney boasts a 7-5 dual record at the 141-lb. weight class. After losing four of his first five bouts to start the season, the Toms River native has rolled off victories in six of his last seven and won four straight. In his current winning streak, Meaney has pinned one of his opponents, which occurred at American International on Jan. 17.

Lastly, senior Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) has won six straight matches at 197, and sports a record of 9-3 in dual competition. DiIorio is currently averaging 12.8 points per bout in 2014-15, winning a combined four duals via technical fall or major decision. He has also pinned two of his opponents to this point, and came in second at the Long Island Open.

LIU Post returns to the mat Sunday (Feb. 1), when they compete at the Johnson and Wales' Wildcat Open in Providence, R.I. Action is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start.
