Malik Pierre (Holbrook, N.Y.) has been recognized as the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Pierre, who last earned the honor on Sept. 8, ran the ball for 96 yards and a touchdown in the Pioneers' 27-24 win over Merrimack College on Saturday. His longest carry went for 29 yards in the third quarter, which resulted in his lone TD of the game.
Through six contests, Pierre spearheads LIU Post's ground attack with 579 yards and six touchdowns. He ranks second in the NE-10 in rushing touchdowns, fourth in total rushing yards and yards per game (96.5), and fifth in yards per rush (6.2).
Pierre is also slotted in the Top-50 amongst Division II in five statistical categories. He sits 22nd in all-purpose yards (162.5), 40th in combined kick returns (357.0), 42nd in rushing touchdowns, 46th in total rushing yards and 49th in yards per game.
Pierre and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Oct. 17), when they begin a short two-game road trip in Pleasantville, N.Y. at NE-10 foe Pace University. The opening kickoff is slated for noon.
