SPARKILL, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2015) - On Saturday, the 10th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team dropped its regular-season finale to St. Thomas Aquinas College, 4-3, at Spartan Field.
The Pioneers (12-2-2, 9-1 ECC) found themselves down early, after the Spartans (5-11-1, 2-7-1) scored in the seventh minute.
LIU Post responded though with a pair of goals from sophomore midfielder
Harry Pearse (Berkshire, London, England) in the 19th and 24th minutes to put the green and gold ahead 2-1. Junior forward
Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, U.K.) provided assists on both markers.
The two teams eventually headed into the break tied at 2-2, as STAC evened the score on a tally with 13:17 remaining.
Less than six minutes into the latter half, senior forward
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) re-gained the one-goal advantage (3-2) for LIU Post, off another helper from Lampkin.
However, the Spartans countered with two goals in 40 seconds late in the period to come away with the 4-3 upset.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers now prepare for the 2015 East Coast Conference Championships, which start on Wednesday (Nov. 4).
