ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2015) - Junior attackman
Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) scored a game-high six goals Friday to propel the No. 3/2 LIU Post men's lacrosse team to a 15-6 victory against Saint Leo at the North Florida College Lacrosse Faceoff at St. Augustine High School.
Bellando picked up two ground balls, to go along with his six goals. Senior midfielder
Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) and junior attackman
Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) each tallied three goals. Beccaris collected three ground balls, as well. Fellow junior attackman
Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist in the effort.
LIU Post (3-0) jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the end of one quarter of play. Drost put the Pioneers on the board just 40 seconds into the contest. Beccaris followed with back-to-back markers.
In the second period, Bellando took over offensively. He found the back of the cage four times in the 15-minute session, two of which came in a stint of 1:19. Beccaris and Slane also added tallies to send the green and gold into the intermission with a 10-2 advantage.
That proved to be all the Pioneers needed to secure a third-straight victory. During the latter 30 minutes of action, however, Bellando and Drost both tacked on two more goals, while freshman attackman
Eddie Bisson (North Babylon, N.Y.) fired home his first collegiate tally.
Between the pipes, LIU Post junior goalie
Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) made 10 saves in the win. His counterpart, Dave Moore (Lake Mary, Fla.) stopped a game-best 16 shots for Saint Leo (1-1).
Head Coach
John Jez and the Pioneers wrap up play at the North Florida College Lacrose Faceoff on Sunday (Mar. 1). They will square off with Lynn in a non-conference showdown at Matanzas High School in Palm Coast. The opening faceoff is scheduled for noon.
