GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2015) - Sophomore forward
Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, U.K.) found the back of the net three times Saturday, as the 11th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team defeated No. 16 Southern Connecticut State University, 3-0, as part of the Adelphi Alumni Invitational at Motamed Field.
Lampkin got the Pioneers (1-0-1) on the board first in the 23rd minute. Senior midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) found the sophomore, who put one into the mesh for the contest's opening tally.
Later, in the second half, Forgaard found Lampkin again to extend the lead to 2-0. This time, Lampkin one-timed a cross-pass from the right side into the bottom-left corner of the goal.
Lampkin completed the hat trick in the 83rd minute. After beating his defender, Lampkin's shot was mishandled by the Owls' (1-1) keeper and trickled into the net.
Lampkin, the 2014 East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, already has four goals in just two games in 2015. Last season, he scored six goals in 20 contests.
Between the pipes, senior
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made three stops on seven shots for his first clean sheet of the season.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers return to action on Thursday (Sept. 10), when they take on 15th-ranked Merrimack College at the Purple Knight Classic, hosted by the University of Bridgeport. The game is a re-match of last year's NCAA Division II East Region Championship. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
