HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2016) - The LIU Post softball team recently lent a hand in raising funds for cancer awareness at Kicks For Cancer at Hauppauge High School.
The Pioneers volunteered their time by selling raffle tickets and assisting Pioneer alumnus
Alexis Gonzalez in the organization and management of the event.
"Each and every year, our team supports Alexis in Kicks For Cancer at Hauppauge High School," stated Head Coach
Jamie Apicella. "We feel it is the least we can we do to help out our alumni and all the foundations that the proceeds are donated to."
Now in its ninth year, Kicks For Cancer honors former student Courtney Tomkin, who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in October 2008.
The proceeds from the event benefited the Making Headway Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Courtney Tomkin Scholarship Fund.
