Charlie Ledula (London, England) and senior goalkeeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) of the LIU Post men's soccer team have individually been selected as the East Coast Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Ledula collected a team-leading five points (2 G, 1 A) for the Pioneers last week. He scored a goal and assisted on the game-winning tally in a 3-2 overtime victory at Molloy on Thursday (Oct. 20). Three days later, Ledula netted the game-winner in the 100th minute in a 1-0 overtime triumph against St. Thomas Aquinas.
Ledula currently leads the ECC this season in goals (15), game-winning goals (7) and points (33). Additionally, his seven game-winners are tied for the second-most in Division II, while his 15 goals rank ninth amongst the nation's top goal-scorers.
Malmstrom played the entire 194:04 between the pipes for LIU Post, stopping six shots. He made a game-high four saves at Molloy, and added another two stops against STAC.
This season, Malmstrom sports a league-leading 11-0-1 record with 28 saves and an ECC-best 0.61 goals-against average. His seven goals allowed are also the fewest amongst conference netminders.
Ledula, Malmstrom and the Pioneers are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 26), when they welcome in University of the District of Columbia for an ECC showdown at 2:30 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville.
