DANBURY, Conn. (Nov. 30, 2016) - Coming off a stellar season, LIU Post men's soccer sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) was named the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Offensive Player of the Year on Wednesday.
Additionally, three other Pioneers were selected to the ECAC All-Star First Team. They were junior back
David Arvidsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), junior midfielder
Harry Pearse (London, England) and red-shirt junior midfielder
Erik Berthagen (Gothenburg, Sweden).
Ledula set career-highs and led the East Coast Conference in goals and points in 2016. Starting in 19 of 20 matches, the ECC and D2CCA East Region Player of the Year totaled 18 goals (eight game-winners) and 42 points to help the green and gold to their first unbeaten regular season in program history. He also scored a goal in 13 of the Pioneers' 16 regular-season contests.
A stalwart in LIU Post's defensive half, Arvidsson, who was chosen as the ECC Defensive Player of the Year, spearheaded a back line that limited the opposition to the fewest goals allowed (15) in the league this year. He had nine points (4 G, 1 A) to his credit, as well.
Pearse had an exceptional junior campaign, tallying nine goals and a conference-best 14 assists for 32 points. Three of those markers proved to be game-winners, including the overtime clincher in a thrilling 3-2 victory at Molloy on Oct. 20. He has been recognized to the All-ECC, D2CCA All-Region and All-America First Team for his efforts.
Berthagen netted a pair of goals in 2016, and helped anchor a defensive unit that locked down opponents to the tune of a 0.75 goals-against average. His play has led to All-ECC first-team and D2CCA All-East Region second-team nods.
