Women's Basketball Drops 67-60 Decision at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2016) - On Sunday, the LIU Post women's basketball team dropped a 67-60 decision at Roberts Wesleyan College in East Coast Conference play at the Voller Athletic Center in Rochester.

The Pioneers (5-22, 5-14 ECC) led for most of the game until the Redhawks (22-4, 14-4 ECC) went on a 14-0 run that spanned over six minutes of the fourth quarter.

With the green and gold leading 50-44 just over a minute into the fourth, Roberts Wesleyan rattled off 14 unanswered points to take a 58-50 lead.

Then, with the hosts leading 62-57, senior guard Jalyn Brown (Riverhead, N.Y.) drained one of her four three pointers to make it a two-point game (62-60). 

The Redhawks would then go 5-for-6 from the free throw line to seal it.

Brown scored a team-high 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting. The senior was 4-for-9 from long distance. Brown also added four assists and four rebounds. Junior forward Melsha Messam (St. Albans, N.Y.) added 11 points and 11 rebounds for her second-straight double double.

Head coach Deirdre Moore and her Pioneers wrap up the 2015-16 regular season at home on Saturday (Feb. 27) when they host University of the District of Columbia in an ECC battle in Brookville. LIU Post's five graduating seniors will be honored with a pregame ceremony as they will be playing their final home games of their careers. The opening tip is slated for 1:30 p.m. from the Pratt Recreation Center.
