BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2016) - When the LIU Post men's lacrosse team plays host to Mercy College on Apr. 23, the Pioneers will also be holding their fourth-annual "Team Connor Day."
"Team Connor Day" honors Cancer Center for Kids' (CCFK) patient Connor Bradley and his battle against pediatric cancer. Connor will serve as LIU Post's honorary captain for the afternoon, coaching the Pioneers from the sidelines. Like he had in the 2015 initiative, Connor may share his honorary coaching abilities with another CCFK patient who is currently undergoing treatment.
The event will feature various raffles and prizes to help raise funds for the CCFK. A private donor has offered to contribute $100 for every Pioneer goal scored, as well.
Proceeds will benefit the psychosocial programs and services at the CCFK, which include a wide variety of essential therapeutic services. Free programs like Kids Club and Music Therapy provide much-needed emotional support for children and families from the moment of diagnosis through intense treatment and long-term follow-up. In addition, monies raised will underwrite specific patient and family needs like gas and supermarket cards; Toys R Us, Sports Authority, Best Buy, or Visa gift cards for patient birthdays. Additionally, all funds will support special celebrations—including cake, decorations and gifts—for children receiving treatment on their actual birthday at the Center.
