Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) will make a return appearance to the NCAA Division II National Championships, after a third-place finish in the 133-lb. bracket at the 2016 NCAA Division II Super Region I Championships Saturday at the Mercyhurst University Athletic Center.
Following a 7-3 loss to Notre Dame's David Bavery in the tournament semifinals, Calderone dispatched both of his opponents in the wrestlebacks to secure his place at nationals. He first earned a 7-3 decision over Mercyhurst's Kevin Kinyua, before knocking off No. 4 regionally-ranked grappler Nolan Whitely of Wheeling Jesuit, 10-4.
In the 285-lb. weight class, sophomore
James Louison (Hauppauge, N.Y.) also lost in the championship semis and placed sixth to earn All-Super Region I notice. In his final bout of the weekend, Louison fell by a slight 5-3 count to Wheeling Jesuit's Logan Bowman.

Dan Arkow (Merrick, N.Y.) was pinned (0:31) by Shippensburg's Shane Springer at 174 in his lone match of the day, while sophomore
Ronnie King (Islip, N.Y.) lost to Alderson-Broaddus' Cody Spinks via pinfall in 3:53.
Calderone now awaits his seeding in the upcoming NCAA Division II National Championships, which are set to be held Mar. 11-12 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
