Calderone Wraps Up Year For Wrestling at National Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Mar. 11, 2016) - On Friday, LIU Post 133-lb. sophomore Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) grappled at the 2016 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Calderone got his lone win in the tournament in the wrestlebacks, majoring Ashland's Chandler Minnard, 13-3. He earned a takedown in all three periods, and recorded four near-fall points in the final two-minute session.

He came close to advancing in the championship bracket, but narrowly lost to Taylor Summers of Chadron State by a 3-2 final. Summers' 1:19 of riding time was the deciding factor in the match.

Calderone's magical run came to a close in his second bout of the wrestlebacks. He was pinned by McKendree's Naquan Hardy in 1:59.

The Pioneers, who were 11-11 in duals, have now concluded the 2015-16 campaign. For more information on the LIU Post wrestling program, please continue to visit LIUPostPioneers.com.
