CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Mar. 7, 2016) - The East Coast Conference handed out its weekly men's lacrosse awards Monday, and LIU Post senior attackman
Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) was recognized as the player of the week by the league.
Bellando racked up a team-high 12 points (8 G, 4 A) last week, as he helped the Pioneers improve to 2-2 on the season.
Bellando led all players last Wednesday (Mar. 3) with a six-point showing (2 G, 4 A) in a 16-3 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College, before going off for six goals in a 15-6 victory against Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday (Mar. 5). Three of his six tallies versus Roberts occurred in a six-goal barrage in the third quarter.
Through four games in 2016, Bellando currently ranks third in the ECC in goals (12) and fourth in points (16). He has also attempted the second-most shots on goal (24) in the league and is tied for 10th in ground balls with 13.
Bellando and the Pioneers will look to keep their hot streak going Tuesday (Mar. 8), when they face Georgian Court University at 4 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
