BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 16, 2016) - After Saturday's exhilarating overtime victory, the LIU Post men's lacrosse team vaulted to No. 8 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Division II rankings, released Monday afternoon.
Behind a four-goal performance from senior attackman/midfielder
Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.), the Pioneers slayed then-No. 10 Dowling College in overtime, 10-9. He netted the clincher 3:29 into the extra session, and also scored the game-tying marker with 35 seconds left in regulation.
In the last two weeks, LIU Post, which is riding a four-game winning streak, has improved eight spots in the voting. Limestone College and Le Moyne College continued their reign atop the polls, sporting individual unblemished marks of 15-0 and 13-0.
The Pioneers currently boast the No. 1 man-up unit in the nation, converting at a rate of 59.4 percent. They also rank fifth in scoring defense (7.45) and scoring margin (+6.18) and seventh in faceoff win percentage (.648).
Junior midfielder
Anthony Galeotafiore (Wantagh, N.Y.) has been dominant on faceoffs, drawing to a 69.2 success clip. That mark is tops in the East Coast Conference and fifth-best in Division II.
LIU Post returns to action Saturday (Apr. 23), when it hosts No. 13 Mercy College in an ECC showdown at noon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
