Men's Soccer Rises to No. 8 in Latest NSCAA Top-25 Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 6, 2016) - After a pair of non-conference wins last weekend, the LIU Post men's soccer team moved up one spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top-25 Poll to No. 8, the organization announced Tuesday.

The Pioneers (2-0) scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to down host Adelphi University in their first contest of the Adelphi Alumni Invitational last week. Then, in their second game, the green and gold defeated Southern Connecticut State University, 2-1, to close out the week.

Leading the Pioneer offense was reigning East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, Charlie Ledula (London, England). Ledula notched the game-winning goal against the Panthers, before scoring in the 10th minute versus the Owls. For his efforts, Ledula was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Week. Defensively, senior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made a total of six saves in the two wins.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers return to action on Thursday (Sept. 8), when they head to Bridgeport, Conn. to take on Merrimack College in the Purple Knight Classic, hosted by University of Bridgeport. The opening kick is slated for 4 p.m.
