WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Just over eight minutes into the overtime period, freshman midfielder Sammy Bell (Milngavie, Glasgow, United Kingdom) sent home the game-winner to lift the fourth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team past fifth-ranked West Chester on Thursday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

Trailing 1-0 at the start, the Pioneers (8-2) knotted the score off a penalty corner just under 10 minutes into the game.  An insert by Kate Melvin (Milford, De.) was redirected by Julie Gysels (Boom, Belgium) to Arantxa Rosainz Caloca (Guadelajara, Mexico) for the finish.

Neither side would break through for another score in the opening half, but once again the Rams (6-5) were the first to find the back of the cage in the latter half.

The green and gold pulled ahead off a pair of tallies by junior forward Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) in the 54th and 58th minutes, but with 3:35 left to play, the home squad tied the score (the third tie of the game) sending the contest into overtime.

After subbing into the match less than two minutes prior, the rookie Bell played the hero as she cleaned up a Miller shot off a corner to secure the thrilling Pioneer victory.

Miller finished with a game-high five points (2g,1a), while Gysels was a force on both ends notching two assists while recording a pair of defensive saves.

Freshman netminder Rachel Vellis (Wayne, N.J.) turned aside a season-high 10 shots in the victory, while her counterpart Marissa Elizardo registered seven saves.

The Pioneers continue their three-game road trip with a match-up at Southern New Hampshire on Satuday (Oct. 7). The two NE-10 squads are set to face-off at noon in Mancherster, N.H.
