Brookville, NY| On Monday, LIU Post men's soccer head coach Andreas Lindberg announced that he will be stepping down to continue his collegiate coaching career at Big East member institution Seton Hall.
Lindberg, the 12th head coach in LIU Post men's soccer program history, led the Pioneers to three-straight East Coast Conference titles and reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round three of the past four years.
Under Lindberg's tutelage, the green and gold posted a 139-30-15 overall record and an impressive 64-8-6 mark in league play. LIU Post currently holds an active 18-game unbeaten streak in ECC action, while boasting a 25-1-2 record in conference contests since 2015. Lindberg has led the Pioneers to eight ECC Regular Season Championships, six conference championships, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, and four NCAA East Region titles. LIU Post earned a national No. 1 ranking under his realm in the United Soccer Coaches Poll in 2012. Additionally, the program has finished within the Top-15 in the final season poll in each of the last seven years, including a No. 7 slot this past season.
"I would like to thank everyone that has been with me during my time at LIU Post," stated Lindberg. "I have been fortunate to have worked with many great people and have amazing players both on and off the field. These last nine years have been the greatest time of my coaching career and the relationships that I have created will last a lifetime," added Lindberg. "I will forever be grateful for my time at Post and I wish my Pioneer Family good luck in the future."
In 2017, Lindberg and the Pioneers went 18-1-2 (8-0-1) claiming their third-straight ECC Championship. After dismissing UDC 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the green and gold captured its third East Regional Championship with a 3-0 victory over Adelphi.
"I would like to thank Andreas for his service and dedication to the LIU Post men's and women's soccer programs," LIU Post Director of Athletics & Recreation Deb DeJong stated. "The program has grown significantly under his leadership and is positioned for success for years to come. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
During Lindberg's nine-year tenure, the team produced one Div. II National Player of the Year award, 10 United Soccer Coaches All-America selections, four United Soccer Coaches Academic All-America selections, 26 All-East Region selections, 44 All-ECC selections, six ECC Offensive Player of the Year awards, two ECC Defensive Player of the Year awards, three ECC Goalkeeper of the Year awards and five ECC Rookie of the Year awards.
Additionally, Lindberg was named ECC Coach of the Year (2017, 2015, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009) and is a three-time United Soccer Coaches East Region Coach of the Year (2017, 2015, 2014).
Off the field, Lindberg has led his team to seven ECC Academic Team of Excellence honors, six United Soccer Coaches Team Academic awards, seven Academic All-Americans, three CoSIDA Academic All-Americans of the Year, and 13 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections.
