No. 2 Men's Lacrosse Runs Past Dominican, 14-10

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (April 30, 2011)
Five players each scored a pair of goals to help lead No.2 C.W. Post over Dominican College, 14-10, in an East Coast Conference men's lacrosse clash Saturday afternoon.
 
C.W. Post improves to 15-1 overall and 8-1 in ECC play while Dominican drops to 2-12 overall and 1-8 in conference action.
 
C.W. Post outshot Dominican, 46-26, and held a 39-31 advantage in ground balls.
 
Dominican scored the game's first goal with 14:15 to play in the first quarter when Alex Jones scored his 32nd goal of the season on a pass from Thomas Dertinger. The Chargers would end up with a 3-2 lead at the end of the quarter with goals from Connor Lawlor and Korin Pierce. The Pioneers got goals from sophomore attacker Matt Riccio (Trumbull, Conn.) and senior midfielder Nick Lacagnina (Farmingville, N.Y.) in the first.
 
In the second quarter, C.W. Post rallied to outscore Dominican 3-1 and take a 5-4 lead. Senior midfielder Jimmy Johnston (Farmingville, N.Y.) posted a man-up goal on a pass from sophomore attacker Justin Patterson (Corning, N.Y.) at 13:26. Junior midfielder Keith Rodriguez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) added two more at 9:53 and 7:48 to close out the quarter.
 
Both teams were busy in the third quarter as they combined to score eight goals – the Pioneers with a -3 edge.
 
With a 10-8 lead in the fourth, the Pioneers got help with three straight goals from junior attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.), junior midfielder Wade Ungar (Middle Island, N.Y.) and Patterson to cushion their lead. 
 
The Chargers came back with two goals from Dertinger and Jones with 7:31 and 2:03 to play in regulation.
 
Lacagnina tallied the game's final goal with 1:01 to play.
 
Patterson finished the game with two goals and an assist while senior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) also recorded three points with a goal and two assists in the game. Lacagnina, Plompen, Rodriguez and Johnston all finished the game with two goals.
 
Senior goalkeeper Mike Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made six stops in goal for his 15th win in goal this season.
 
Pierce, Dertinger and Jesse Peterson each led Dominican with two goals and an assist. Lawlor and Jones also had two goals.
 
Brandon Bonacum made 20 saves in goal for the Chargers.
 
C.W. Post returns to action for its final regular season game at home against Molloy College on Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m.
