Football Hosts West Chester On Saturday At 1 p.m.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2011) – C.W. Post hosts PSAC East rival West Chester on Saturday at 1 p.m.  The Pioneers are coming off a 40-22 win last week against Shippensburg and look to go 2-0 in conference play with a win against the Golden Rams.
 
At halftime, head coach Bryan Collins along with George Sandas, the Hemptead Fire Department, FDNY Rescue 4 will present this year's Durrell “Bronko” Pearsall Award, given to a player who personifies Durrell's unselfish dedication to his teammates.  Pearsall was a member of the FDNY Rescue 4 and laid down his life on Sept. 11, 2001. 
 
Fans who can't make it to the game can hear the play-by-play on WCWP 88.1 FM, which can also be heard online. Live stats and video will also be provided. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
    • C.W. Post totaled 551 offensive yards in last week's game against Shippensburg. 
    • Freshman Steven Laurino completed 13 passes for 185 yards.  Laurino also led the ground attack with 117 rushing yards.
    • Senior inside linebacker Ronnie Modik totaled 14 tackles along with a sack, two forced fumbles and a QB hurry.
    • Sophomore running back Jeff Mack had his best game of the season with 17 carries for 111 yards and a game-high three touchdowns.
    • The Pioneers' 69 tackles on defense were the lowest count all season.  The highest was 93 against California (Pa.)
    • The team's eight sacks were the most since the Pioneers made nine sacks against Stonehill on Sept. 2, 2007 - also at home on Hickox.
 
RETURN OF THE MACK
    Sophomore running back Jeff Mack returned to the field last Saturday against Shippensburg after missing action at California (Pa.) and Mercyhurst from a leg injury and went on to rush for 111 yards and three touchdowns.
 
MODIK GARNERS WEEKLY HONORS
    Senior inside linebacker Ronnie Modik was honored as this week's PSAC East and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week.  Modik helped C.W. Post to its first win of the season, 40-22 over Shippensburg, by making 14 total tackles (six solo), including 2.5 for combined loss of four yards. He also forced two fumbles, which resulted in two of the four turnovers committed by the Red Raiders, and added a quarterback hurry in the win for the Pioneers.
 
GETTING DEFENSIVE
    The Pioneer defense has been put to work quite a bit this season and the unit has stepped up to keep the team in games this season. Currently, senior inside linebacker Ronnie Modik is ranked second in the PSAC in tackles with 10.2 per game while senior Billy O'Connor is sixth overall with 9.0 per game.  Modik is also the leader in forced fumbles with two while junior defensive back D.J. Young is ranked third in pass breakups with five total.
 
HALL OF FAME WEEKEND
Head coach Bryan Collins recently announced this year's Football Hall of Fame.  Ernie Altamirano '76, Durrell “Bronko” Pearsall '92, Dave Shanahan '93, Jeremiah Pope '04, and Rob Blount '07 will honored as members of the Class of 2011 on Thursday, Sept. 29 at the Tilles Center Atrium on campus.  These former Pioneer standouts will also appear on the field before Saturday's game for the ceremonial coin toss.
