#7 Men's Lacrosse Uses Strong Second Half in 13-7 Win Over Bentley

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 10, 2012) – Outscoring Bentley 6-2 in the second half, the C.W. Post men's lacrosse team earned a 13-7 win earlier today on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post improves to 3-1 on the season, while Bentley drops the team's season-opener, going to 0-1.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after goals by
Keith Rodriguez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and
Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) in the first three minutes of play. Bentley evened up that 2-2 score and then took a 3-2 lead on a J.D. Ayer goal with 3:31 to play in the first period.
Dennis Gannon (Huntington, N.Y.) equaled the score for C.W. Post to end the first period at 3-3.
With the score tied at four during the second period, the Pioneer reeled off three straight goals to take a 7-4 lead with 4:50 to go in the first half. Drost and Rodrigues accounted for two of the goals while
Doug Hoch (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) got the spurt started. Bentley cut the lead to 7-5 before the end of the half, as Steve Caditz earned the goal.
Rodriguez started another stretch of three unanswered goals for the Pioneers to begin the second half, as his goal along with one by
Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) and another by
Justin Patterson (Corning, N.Y.) gave C.W. Post a 10-5 lead.
The Pioneer defense stood strong during the second half of play, only allowing two goals and helping to earn C.W. Post a 13-7 win.
Rodriguez ended his day with four goals to lead all individuals, while Patterson and Drost each added two. The Pioneers used a 43-27 shot advantage as well as causing 22 Bentley turnovers to help create the victory.
The next game on the schedule for the Pioneers will be a 12 p.m. contest against Dowling next Saturday, March 17 on Hickox Field.
