BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2015) - On Wednesday, the 10th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team came away with a 5-2 win over East Coast Conference rival Molloy College at Pioneer Soccer Park.
With the victory, Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg became the first coach in program history to win 100 games, while LIU Post captured the ECC regular-season title.
The Pioneers (12-1-2, 9-0 ECC) found themselves down early in the first half. The Lions (10-5, 5-4 ECC) scored in just the eighth minute of play.
From there, the green and gold got some help to tie the score. In the 30th minute, the Pioneers sent a through ball into the box that hit a Molloy defender and went into the net.
After that, LIU Post scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead.
In the 34th minute, senior midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) re-directed a shot off the foot of graduate defender
Seb Baxter (Saffron Walden, England) for the goal.
Then, in the second half, junior forward
Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, U.K.) sent a pass to senior forward
Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.), who put a shot on goal that bounced off Molloy's keeper's hands and into the net.
In the 74th and 78th minutes, freshman forward
Charlie Ledula (London, England) netted a pair of markers, both off assists from Forgaard.
In the 82nd minute, Molloy converted a penalty kick for its second goal to cap off the afternoon's scoring.
The Pioneers got off 29 shots, 15 of which were on target. Junior keeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made three saves in 76:48 of action to earn the win
Lindberg and his LIU Post squad return to action on Saturday (Oct. 31), when they head to Sparkill to take on St. Thomas Aquinas College in their regular-season finale. The opening kick is slated for 3 p.m.
